DERBY SPORTS AWARDS 2007
Film City are working with Derby City Council's Sport & Leisure Department to produce a series of short videos to be screened at this years Derby Sports Awards in September. Volunteer Benjamin [BJ] will be working as a press officer and documentary filmmaker for the Derby Sports Awards 2007, helping cover some of the diverse sporting activities happening across the City and County this Summer. Regular updates below from the Film City team and BJ...

10th June 07
The first shoot of the summer was the Rolls Royce Junior Badminton Club Under 16 competition. Club members competed against each other for trophies at singles and doubles, with some very tight matches and the odd 'friendly disagreement' along the way. The humid weather was more 'Far East' than Derby but this didn't seem to effect the players. The club has a range of players, including several representing Derby at county level, and the whole day was played in a great spirit.

13th June 07
A sunny afternoon at Rosehill Cricket Club was host to a School's Cricket Competition, with several schools battling it out under the blazing sun. Every team was a blend of girls and boys, and the action was frentic and relentless, as was the support from certain quarters on the sidelines. All looked resplendant in their whites, with the possible exception of the young gentleman in the Wayne Rooney England Away Shirt. Plenty of talent on display and plenty of cricket...

Film City reporter Benjamin Cooper develops production skills with camera and sound operation and develops his interview technique with his first high profile scoop!

Benjamin is one of the young people volunteering with Derby City Sport and Leisure to develop his skills in Public Relations and helped in the promotion and organizing of the B Active Event in The Market Square this Summer.

On filming duty at the b active event

Benjamin approached Film City to develop his film making skills and is currently training with the agency to gain his Arts Award Qualification in media production and new media skills. BJ had a tough call for his first big interview but he handled Derby's Mayor with professional composure and a string of interesting questions about the diversity of sporting activities, at the event, in the city and across Derbyshire.

BJ will be uploading his own online reports about the range of sports people he has interviewed and the production skills he has developed. His reports will be posted on the Project Blogsite of the forum detailing the work he did for the short film to be played during The Derby Sports Award ceremonny on September 20th and will continue after the event as he further develops his skills and goes on to do more production work in the city, we hope!!

We're pleased to announce that the Derby Sport Awards was a huge success, everybody seemed to enjoy the premier of the film which BJ our trainee film maker/PR Manager helped to make. BJ accepted his certificate from Derby City Sport and Leisure for all his volunteer work ... we're looking forward to seeing the photos!! BJ will also soon begin post production work on the final film to be made as part of the project which is his own production work from Derby's B Active event earlier on in the Summer. Watch this space!
